Jazz dance has transformed from its African-American vernacular roots into a theatre-based performance form of dance. Its continual development gives rise to fusion of Jazz dance with other styles such as street dance and contemporary dance, but retains its characteristics of body isolations, low centre of gravity, and movement vocabulary such as ball change, chassé and chaînés.

  1. To introduce students to jazz techniques and understand it's stylistic characteristics and musical influence.
  2. Embracing the learning of the elements of dance, students will learn it's application for artistic and creative expression of performing jazz.
  3. Students will demonstrate their learning in the form of a group performance of a musical jazz choreography.
